Over the past 15 years I have helped hundreds of families in my practice to improve the quality of their relationships and to communicate more effectively – with the overall aim that professional and family tasks can be completed more effectively and with less stress and that both parents and children find more strength, calm and that family bonds are strengthened. These consultations are tailored to the specific needs of your family. All members of the family participate. Even after the first consultation unit they can change tangible elements in daily family life.
Aims and contents
Depending on your personal situation the coaching sessions can focus on the following issues:
- jointly resolving conflicts and differences of opinion in a manner which shows respect and attention to the other’s needs.
- staying in tune with your partner and children in spite of differing points of view.
- listening to each other and communicating your own concerns without making reproaches and others feel guilty.
- reaching agreements which can be stuck to.
- conveying self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, reliance and social competence to your children.
Children acquire the skills to master the challenges of the school and family day with inner and outer balance and self-confidence.
Puberty
For many parents the child’s period of puberty is a difficult time. Through family coaching you can discover jointly with your pubescent child how to keep the relationship in tact in spite of differing ideals and how you can resolve conflict constructively showing respect for each other. This is an essential means of providing your child with security and stability so that they can find their own path into adult life which often is no easy task for them.
Helping others to help themselves
Three to five coaching sessions are recommended spread over a twelve week period in order to achieve real improvements in the quality of relationships and communication within the family. You are provided with practical guidelines to transpose what has been learned independently and successfully into daily life. Even after the first session you will begin to see the desired changes taking place in the everyday life of the family.
Cost
One coaching session lasts between 1½ and 2 hours (€ 80,–/hour.). There are special rates for the social disadvantaged and social institutions.
Family seminars
Take place on weekends and during the holidays. This gives you and your family sufficient opportunity to integrate what you have learned into daily life.
Feedback from families:
Viering family, Munich, January 2010
I am a single mother bringing up my 11 year-old daughter who was completely overwhelmed at the transition from elementary to secondary school. After initial consultations with Mr. Nicolay we discovered that my daughter also suffered from the bad communication between me and her father. We arranged joint meetings with the three of us and have learned to communicate among ourselves with respect. In our sessions with Nicolay we learned immediately to apply in practice what we had discovered in theory. I personally have learned to apply what I have learned in all aspects of my daily life and am thankful to my daughter who was the instigation of seeking a solution with a coach with whom we always felt comfortable.
Engelhard family, Munich, June 2009
We as a family are still benefiting from the very informative and valuable hours we spent with you. Andreas has become a more independent learner and he is really pleased that his school grades have improved. Martin is also making progress in learning independently. Through your coaching it has become very clear to me that that responsibility for my sons’ performance at school can and must not rest on my shoulders alone. This has really created a more relaxed and harmonious atmosphere in our family. We continue with our family sessions. Sincere thanks once again for your support and practical advice.
M. Feller, Munich, February 2008
Your work has given both my daughter and myself new stimulus. Our daughter now organises her afternoons with the various activities – homework, hobbies, cleaning things up, preparing things etc. in an independent and competent way. As a mother I have managed also to leave go and give my daughter the responsibility for these matters. This has been a real success both in terms of school performance and the way we communicate.
F. Hofmann, Munich, July 2007
For me family and profession are one and the same. To perform to my best abilities it is essential that everything is OK in the family. Since participating in the seminar and private sessions with you I find a lot more calm and strength in my family. The same goes for my wife and children. Sincere thanks.
Dr. C. Stierlen, Munich, July 2006
The whole family situation has become much more relaxed. Daily life is much more harmonious and our family life has an enhanced quality. Your approach in increasing the sense of the child’s responsibility has been a great help to all of us.
M. Janssen, Munich, May 2005
The past tense family situation has become more carefree and happy. The sessions with you have had a great impact on both me and my three children and we now pay greater attention to each other, showing our feelings and trying to listen to and understand the needs of the others. We are in the process of making this process an integrated part of our family life and never to return to our previous behavioural patterns even when we setbacks.
